ONE OF YOU
Common Ground, Common Sense
It’s time to reimagine Texas.
Politicians should put our interests first.
It’s time to reimagine Texas.
Politicians should put our interests first.
Wealthy special interests buy politicians and have far more influence over policy than average voters like us.
That’s where I want to be different…
My name is Tiffany Drake, and I’m one of you. I’m not a slick-talking politician… Sometimes I even come across as just a regular person, because that’s exactly what I am.
I wasn’t born into wealth or prominence. My family was of modest means, but we were hard-working and always tried to make things better every day for ourselves and those around us.
I witnessed the everyday struggles of working families firsthand, and I know that regular people without lots of money are routinely overlooked by our political system and by the very politicians who are supposed to work for us and be our voice.
Most of our current politicians don’t want to fix the system, because they benefit from it.
I’d rather answer to you, because I’m one of you.
Affordable Housing
Our voters in District 62 have been asked what the most critical problem is facing our district, and the answer has been crystal clear: affordable housing. Rental and mortgage costs have skyrocketed, pouring historical profits into the pockets of the already wealthy, while wages have gone nowhere.
If elected, I will hold the Texas government into account for overtaxing us by $18 billion last year, and for the cost of Operation Lone Star of $10.5 billion dollars, which has accomplished nothing at all. My initiative will be to demand that the state of Texas relieve taxes on landlords and mortgage lenders, with the stipulation that the savings is passed on to the renter or home buyer.
Public Education
The next immediate threat to the well-being of our communities is the sustained attack on public education. Their mission is to fund vouchers for private schools for the already wealthy, so that rural and low- and middle-income children do not receive education at all.
An uneducated public is much easier to rule over, and they rarely vote. This is their vision, and I will fight against it every day, while my opponent actively undermines public education by supporting vouchers.
Women's Health
Based on recent actions, it’s clear that certain state leaders would rather see women die than to let them end a pregnancy, no matter how the pregnancy happened, how the pregnancy is going, or the preference of the person who is pregnant. As of this writing, extremist policies have forced over 26,000 women in Texas to give birth to their rapist's child or face prosecution of the mother, doctor, or anyone else involved. This extremism makes a mockery of personal freedom.
Texas also has the highest health insurance costs in the nation, the highest maternal mortality rate in the entire world, and the poorest served for healthcare in the nation.
If elected, I will demand that Texas accept Medicaid expansion and offer no-cost perinatal care to all Texas women and pediatric health care to all children – a responsible investment in our future (children) that will pay off many times over in the future.
